First draft screenplay for the film Alien 3 by William Gibson, available online. Significiantly different from the final film...

Length[]

Like 71 standard pages or something around that. At least using the method I count novels with, it is - it would take up significantly more space printed in the format of a screenplay and I don't know if it would take more or less time to read than 71 pages of novel.

Journal[]

After watching Alien 3 with Luke a few days before, I noticed a thread on reddit about how even its director hates it, although I thought it was really good. To demonstrate how much the studio meddled with it, someone linked to William Gibson's original screenplay, so I read it that day.

I thought it was pretty trash, to be honest. For a lot of reasons. Hicks was the protagonist instead of Ripley. The aliens were upgraded crazily in terms of their abilities and threat, in ways that undermine the first two films. Multiple chestbursters bursting out of people was unnecessarily over the top. People walking around and talking like normal seconds before their skin is ripped off to reveal a human-sized alien is stupid and unbelievable. There were a couple of instances of foreshadowing that just stood out like a sore thumb, at least in the screenplay (perhaps as a film they'd have worked, I dunno). I just thought the whole thing was boring and silly.
