Mum bought it for me along with A Thousand Splendid Suns at Barter Books during our August 2011 holiday to Northumberland.
Started reading it on the 13th of October 2011, after my second read-through of Harry Potter and the Methods of Rationality (up to Chapter 77 at the time). At first I thought it was very childishly written, and figured it was more or less a children's book. Changed my mind, of course. Hassan's encounter with the bullies took me by surprise, and later swearing and adult content persuaded me it can't be a children's book.
But by half way through the book I had warmed to it and after finishing concluded it was almost as good as Goodnight Mr Tom.
